Rentrak Corporation is an information management company with more than 20 years of experience in the home entertainment industry. Our advanced technology allows industry decision-makers to gather, interpret and use their performance and consumption data to create results.
History
In 1977, the video distribution company National Video, Inc. was founded; four years later it began selling video store franchises. By 1985, the company's efforts to develop a revenue sharing distribution system began to pay off and National Video changed its name to Rentrak Corporation to reflect the new focus on its Pay-Per-Transaction® (PPT) distribution and revenue sharing programs. Before long, Rentrak successfully gained acceptance from film studios and other video program suppliers, retailers and industry analysts, and in 1988 the company went public.
Eventually, the proprietary technology Rentrak created to enable PPT was re-imagined as a totally new way to provide critical business intelligence to leaders in the entertainment and advertising industries. Working closely with those industries, Rentrak began to create the next generation of innovative tools now found in our Essentials® services.
Today Rentrak is providing timely, accurate and essential data on a scope and level of detail never before imagined. Our commitment is to become the world's most trusted independent provider of multi-screen media measurement, from linear and on demand television to broadband to mobile devices to whatever comes next. Rentrak will move at the speed of innovation to provide transaction-level insight-and the results that insight brings-to our growing client base of entertainment content distributors and programmers, advertisers, agencies and more.
